When Should You Change Your Electronics
The average household nowadays uses a number of electronic appliances in everyday life. With the market flooded by new models and improvement in technology, the options are growing. In this situation, knowing when to change your electronics is important.
Generally, people consider a number of factors when they change their electronics. Some people want to keep up with the technology, as is the case with televisions. From black & white to color, and from standard definition to 3D, televisions have come a long way. People like to keep up with the new technology and continue replacing their sets as soon as a modern television is available.
On the other hand, there are people who save up and replace their electronics when they have enough money for a new appliance. The third case is when the appliance has suffered major damage and replacement is better than repair. In this scenario, the lifespan of an electronic device does not get much consideration. The best option is to change an electronic device when its useful life is up. Not many people do it but it is the best way to make the most of the money you spent on buying it. Here are the useful lives of common electronic appliances and when should you change them.
Television
By far the most common electronic appliance found in any home is a television. On average, there are two television sets in every home this side of the Atlantic. The average consumer replaces his television after every seven years. The warranty offered by almost all manufacturers of electronics is five years. Hence, it is safe to say that five years is the ideal lifespan of a television set. Beyond that, the manufacturer does not cover the television for servicing or replacement of parts.
There are different useful lives for refrigerators depending on the make and type. The single door traditional refrigerator can last for twenty years though the warranty seldom runs that long. Unless major damage occurs, a conventional refrigerator is usable for fifteen years. The newer models such as the side-by-side and top mount have a useful life of 14 years.
Air Conditioner
A typical room size air conditioner has a lifespan of a decade. A majority of the ten years is under warranty and you can get great value for money. However, the cost of running a room size air conditioner has compelled people to try the newer split units that are cheaper to operate. Their useful life is five to seven years, depending on frequency of usage. As you can see, electronic appliances last a long time. If you want to get complete value for money, use the appliance for the length of its useful life before changing it.
